First 6 Steps to Your Dream Body

If you've tried to lose weight and it's always ended the same way, the problem almost never is willpower. The problem is that half of the "rules" you've been hearing for years from friends, trainers, and bloggers are either outdated or were made up out of thin air to begin with.

Step 1: Eat more

I know, this sounds strange. But the first thing we tell women who come to us saying "I barely eat anything and the scale won't move" is - eat more. On 1200 kcal you're not losing weight, you're surviving. And your body figured this out long ago - it holds onto every calorie like it's the last one.

On a harsh deficit, the first thing to go isn't fat - it's muscle and water. Energy is gone, training feels like punishment, your brain stops working. Then comes the binge - and one evening erases everything you "saved" all week. This isn't weakness or lack of willpower, it's a normal physiological response to starvation.

Calculate your maintenance macros and drop 10-20% off them (or use our macro calculator with your goal). That's enough to lose weight steadily, feel normal, and not crash on the weekends. It feels slower in the moment, but it's faster overall - because there are no setbacks and you don't have to start over every Monday.

Step 2: Start eating carbs

Carbs aren't the enemy. They're the main fuel for your brain, muscles, and nervous system. When you cut them out, the first thing that suffers isn't "the fat on your sides" - it's your energy, mood, focus, and training. Every morning feels like a hangover, and everyone around you is suddenly annoying.

After a week or two of low-carb your body will demand them anyway, simply because it can't function properly without glucose. Usually it ends with a chocolate bar, a piece of cake, or some other "forbidden" food, after which you decide you have no willpower. It's not about willpower - it's physiology.

Step 3: Cut high-intensity training and cardio

HIIT, tabata, an hour of cardio every day - all of it is sold hard as "the best fat burner". For most women on a deficit it's actually the worst thing you can do. Sounds counterintuitive, but it's true - the harder you "kill yourself", the less comes off, and the worse your shape gets.

Intense work needs glycogen - the fast energy your body stores from carbs. On a deficit (especially if you've also cut carbs), there's barely any glycogen left in your muscles. So to cover the energy demand, your body starts breaking down its own muscle - splitting it into amino acids and using those to make glucose. Fat is burning at the same time, but it oxidizes too slowly to fuel intense work. The net result: you're "burning fat", but you're also losing muscle. And muscle is what gives you shape.

While you're in a deficit, the foundation is strength training and walking. Strength training preserves muscle, walking adds calorie expenditure without overloading glycogen and cortisol. Bring high-intensity cardio and HIIT back later, once you're at maintenance and eating enough carbs to actually pay them off.

Step 4: Make friends with strength training

Strength training is what builds shape. Without it you can lose 5-10 kg and end up with the same body, just smaller. That's skinny-fat - the weight came off but the shape didn't change: no waist, no lifted glutes, soft arms.

Lifted glutes, a defined waist, toned arms - all of that is built by strength training. Strength training also raises your metabolism at rest: you burn more calories just because you have muscle. One more thing - with muscle you look leaner at the same or even higher number on the scale. 60 kg of trained body and 60 kg of soft body are two completely different shapes, because muscle is denser and more compact than fat.

Forget the fear of "getting bulky" - women have far less testosterone than men, and to get the body you're afraid of you'd need not just years in the gym but constant progressive overload and, almost certainly, performance-enhancing drugs.

The base: 2-4 strength sessions a week. At the start, what matters isn't the weight on the bar - it's technique and consistency. Build the foundation first, worry about cutting later - the other way around doesn't work.

Step 5: Add fats to your diet

"Fat-free" is marketing, not health. Dietary fat doesn't automatically turn into body fat - those are different things entirely. Without enough fat, though, your hormonal system falls apart - and women feel it first.

Fats are needed for sex hormone production, absorbing vitamins A, D, E, K, healthy skin and hair, feeling full after a meal. If you don't eat enough, you get cycle issues, constant hunger, dry skin, hair falling out. On top of that, "0% fat" products usually replace the missing fat with sugar - same calories, less benefit.

Aim for ~1 g of fat per kg of bodyweight per day. Sources are simple: vegetable oil, nuts, avocado, fatty fish, eggs, real cheese, and full-fat cottage cheese.

Step 6: Allow yourself sweets

Total bans don't work - millions of women have proved this before you. The stricter you say "no" to yourself, the louder you think about it. Sooner or later you binge on a box of cookies, and then comes the standard "the whole week is ruined, I'll start fresh on Monday". Sound familiar?

This isn't a character flaw or lack of willpower. It's how the brain works under total deprivation: the harder you suppress a craving, the stronger it gets. Forbidden fruit isn't a metaphor - it's neuroscience.

What works is the 80/20 rule. 80% of your diet is normal food on plan, the other 20% is what you actually enjoy, within your calories. A piece of chocolate, a cookie, ice cream - all fine if it fits the numbers. Nothing is forbidden - just "when" and "how much".
